FoundersPad originally started in 2012 as an accelerator program in Bend, Oregon. Our founder, Chris Capdevila designed the core of the FoundersPad approach after his personal experience during the lonely and difficult years as an early stage founder. Even though he went on to raise subsequent rounds of funding for his business from venture funds like Sequoia, and eventually sold his business to Oracle, Chris never forgot his experience. He wanted to help founders get the help that he wanted for himself as an early stage founder.
Imagine the possibility of a resource for early stage companies where founders can access the hard to find and often impossible to afford expertise and talent that would make all the difference in the world. Imagine the opportunity to access this resource as an extension of the team for 18 months?
It could change everything.
If this existed, funding business at the earliest stages becomes easier and more effective. It could grow stronger businesses from the roots up. Imagine getting all the best parts of funding at early stage, while still leaning in with the mentorship and expertise founders desperately need.
Consider the possibility of a place where entrepreneurs can come for resources and help regardless of whether they receive funding from FoundersPad? What would it be like to expand the possibilities to serve entrepreneurs regardless of the constraints of fund size, geography, labor, and investment thesis?
We believe that early stage success is about unvarnished advice, authenticity and serving entrepreneurs. It’s with this approach we will achieve performance.
Today FoundersPad is a female-led early stage venture fund with a robust mentorship program that is unlike anything else in the industry. While we are female-led, we believe it’s important to maintain a performance-focused portfolio. We don’t have a gender-lens to our investment model. However, we are proud of our pipeline of nearly 55-45 male-led to female-led teams and nearly 25% non-white (includes LGBTQ+ and veterans). We believe a fund that is increasingly more representative of the actual world we live in is a fund moving in the right direction. With early performance metrics tracking above industry average performance for an early stage fund, we are proud of our heritage and optimistic about our future.
If you’d like to be a part of this new possibility for early stage funding, we welcome a conversation. Let’s do more, together.
